A Lesson in Scale from Mary Fons

Standard

This is a short video about scale in fabric. It shows how to determine large and small scale fabric, and why large scale fabrics (usually) don’t work in small, pieced blocks.

  1. This was a good informative video. I wish they had mentioned one thing and that was you still could use a large scale print in small pieced blocks if you are willing to do some fussy cutting. I’ve done this in the past to get a specific effect and what I needed was only available on a large scale print. Yes it takes time but it can be well worth it in the end.

    • You have a good point. She was using really small block (6″ maybe) to demo and that was a 9 patch. It’s much easier to use larger prints in larger blocks as well. Overall, I thought it was a very simple explanation of scale and especially helpful to new quilters.
